The Info Palette

Sometimes when you’re typing or editing, you need to know how much text you have. You can tell this in InDesign by using the Info Palette (choose Info from the Window menu). When you click an insertion point in a story, it displays the number of characters, words, lines and paragraphs in the story. If you make it a selection, it shows you the same information for your selection.

Sometimes the Info palette displays the number of words like “465+30.” That number after the plus sign is the number of overset words (words that can’t fit in the text frame). You can see the whole story—including overset words—when you open the Story Editor.
