Story Editor

InDesign gives you two ways of viewing and editing a story: layout view (your normal document page), and the Story Editor view, a simple text-editor view which PageMaker users are familiar with. You can open a Story Editor window for any story by choosing Edit in Story Editor from the Edit menu, or pressing Command-Y/Ctrl-Y.

The Story Editor is particularly useful when you’re working with type which is small or hard-to-read. You can type as fast as you want to in the Story Editor, and when you pause, InDesign updates the display of your story in layout view.
