Nesting

In InDesign, any object—text frame, graphics frame or path—can contain another object. This concept is called nesting, and it can give you great freedom in combining objects on your page.

To nest an object in another object, just choose the first object, which we’ll call the “child,” with the Selection tool, and Copy or Cut it to the Clipboard. Then select the second object, which we’ll call the “parent,” and choose Paste Into (not Paste!) from the Edit menu. You can only nest one object in another object at a time, but a group of objects counts as a single object—so if you want to nest more than one object in a frame, group them first.
