Flexibility with Frames

When you work with QuarkXPress boxes, you have one workflow: First, you draw a text box or a picture box as a placeholder, then you fill it with content. You can do that in InDesign, but you can also create frames on-the-fly.

Placeholder Frames

When you want to use the placeholder method, you can use InDesign’s frame tools (see Figure 6-1). There are three basic tools to create a frame in the shape of a rectangle, an ellipse, and a regular polygon. (We’ll show you how create squares, circles and stars from these tools in Chapter 8. And you can make fancier boxes with corner effects, which we describe in Chapter 9.)
