Swatches Palette

We recommend that you use the Swatches palette to create and edit your colors. The advantage of creating named colors here is that—as in QuarkXPress and PageMaker—it makes it easier for you or your service provider to globally change the colors in your document later on, should that be necessary.

If the Swatches palette is not open, choose the Swatches palette from the Window menu, or press F5 (see Figure 38-1). The palette lists all the colors currently in your document, along with icons indicating the color model and whether the color is spot or process. There are controls for applying color to fills and strokes, and creating tints and gradients.
