Type Styles

InDesign shares the same sorts of styles that QuarkXPress and PageMaker offers, such as bold and italic (see Table 22-1), though you apply some of them differently than in the other applications. In addition, InDesign has two new character-level attributes—ligatures and no break.

Font Styling

InDesign controls its own font menus, and only type styles which actually exist in the font appear in the Font Family menu on the Character or Control palette and in the Font menu under the Type menu. To choose font styling (Plain, Bold, Italic, and so on), pick a typeface from one of these popup menus or submenus, or use a keyboard shortcut.
