Kerning and tracking

You can't kern/track HTML text

And that's not all you can't do! For a list of what is permissible and what isn't, see page 136.


Kerning is the manual adjustment of space between a pair of characters (the cursor is inserted between them). Tracking, the adjustment of the space to the right of one or more highlighted characters, can be used to create a variety of typographic effects. The same area of the Measurements palette is used for tracking as for kerning. Note: Before kerning manually, go to QuarkXPress (Edit, in Windows) > Preferences > Print Layout > Character and make sure Auto Kern Above is on, at or below the minimum type size of your text). The kerning and tracking commands aren't available for HTML text.
