Chapter 1. The Basics > The XML Workspace palette

The XML Workspace palette

XML is a system that allows text and picture content to be categorized in order to provide greater flexibility when outputting to the Web or print. First each basic element within XML (e.g., each field of text or data) is assigned its own name and given a hierarchical relationship to other elements in the XML file. Then the contents (items or paragraphs) of a Quark XPress file are tagged to various XML elements. This is done by dragging item boxes onto elements on the XML Tree on the XML Workspace palette, which displays when an XML file is created or opened. This palette is also used to define and view XML elements and their content, and also to preview the actual code in the XML file.
