Chapter 23. Preferences > Using fonts in Windows 2000/XP

Using fonts in Windows 2000/XP

Dealing with fonts in recent versions of Windows is fairly straightforward. OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster (bitmap) formats are supported. Font files are kept in the Fonts folder, at the top level of the folder that contains your installation of Windows. The default name for this folder is Windows.

A font management utility can be used to streamline your workflow, allowing you to store fonts in a folder of your choosing on your hard drive, activate sets of fonts for particular projects, and avoid having to copy large numbers of fonts into your Windows folder. For more information, see the next page.
