InDesign can import text files from recent versions of Microsoft Word and Excel, files in Rich Text Format (RTF—a common interchange format), and tagged text format files. Remember that you don’t need to make a text frame first to import text: As we discuss in Chapter 10, all you need to do is choose Place from the File menu, or press Command-D/Ctrl-D. (Though, of course, you can make a frame first if you want.)
