Chapter 1. The Tools Palette > Determining Color Selections

Determining Color Selections

The Tools palette also lets you control how InDesign applies fills and strokes. You can reset the currently selected colors to the default colors (press D), identify whether the text or frame is being modified, and even apply the last used solid color, gradient or no color from the Tools palette.

InDesign lets you apply color or gradients to either an object’s stroke or fill. You can click on the fill or stroke icons in the Tools palette or the Swatches palette to determine where color selections are applied, but it’s faster to use the X key to toggle between fill and stroke. If you accidentally apply a color to a fill but intended it for the stroke (or vice versa) press Shift-X to toggle the colors between the stroke and fill.
