Chapter 20. Selecting with Complex Stack... > Clicking Through the Stack

Clicking Through the Stack

QuarkXPress has a keystroke that lets you click through a stack of boxes or other items to get to the ones behind. InDesign has such a shortcut, too—in fact six of them!

  • Hold down the Command/Ctrl key and click. The first click selects the top-most object, and successive clicks select objects downward below your cursor.

  • Hold down the Command-Option/Ctrl-Alt keys and click. Successive clicks select objects below your cursor in an upward direction.

  • You can select the bottom-most object on a page by pressing Option-Shift-Command-[/Alt-Shift-Ctrl-[ (square bracket), or the top-most object on a page by pressing Option-Shift-Command-]/Alt-Shift-Ctrl-].

  • You can select next object above the currently-selected one by pressing Option-Command-]/Alt-Ctrl-] or the next object below with Option-Command-[/Ctrl-Alt-[.
