Part 10: Printing > Preflighting

Chapter 91. Preflighting

Preflighting is one of the first stages in preparing your InDesign document for a print workflow. The term, originally coined by industry pundit Chuck Weger, derives its name from the checklist that pilots use when preparing to fly. Preflighting is an automated inspection of your document and its components, including fonts and graphics, so you can see if anything is missing or incorrectly prepared.

QuarkXPress provides only the most rudimentary preflight feature: the report created by Collect for Output includes a list of fonts and graphics. Preflighting in InDesign is integrated into the application, and it provides a great deal more useful information than the XPress feature.
