Positioning the Rules

There are two attributes used when positioning a rule or rules in a paragraph: The vertical position (the “Offset”) and the horizontal position.

Vertical Position

QuarkXPress allows you to set the Offset using either absolute positioning (a specific value from the baseline) or with a percentage of the space between this paragraph and the one before or after it. InDesign, however, only allows absolute positioning. As in XPress, the offset for Rule Above is measured from the baseline of the top line of the text to bottom of the rule. The offset for Rule Below is measured from the baseline of the last line of text to the top of the rule.
