Rotating

In QuarkXPress, a frame or path can be rotated numerically in the Measurement palette or Modify dialog box, or interactively with the Rotation tool. InDesign gives you similar choices—the Rotate tool and the Transform palette. You can also rotate with the Free Transform tool, described below. We tend to just use the Transform palette; simply enter an angle in the Rotation field, and press Enter. You can also choose from preset rotation values found in the popup menu to the right of the field.

Dragging with the Rotate Tool

To drag with the Rotate tool, first set the point of transformation in the Transform palette proxy or by dragging the target icon anywhere on your page (it looks like a little crosshair that is, by default, in the center of the object). Then position the Rotate tool away from the transformation point (the further away, the more control you’ll have) and drag in the direction you want the object rotated. The rotation is a circular motion around the transformation point. The angle of rotation is displayed in the Transform palette. Holding down the Shift key while rotating, constrains the rotation to multiples of 45 degrees.
