Chapter 82. Eyedropper Tool > Copying Text and Other Formatting

Copying Text and Other Formatting

The Eyedropper tool can do much more than copy colors. It can also copy and apply transparency and text attributes. Similar to the method we describe above, you can select text that needs to be formatted and then use the Eyedropper tool to click on text with formatting you wish to copy, even if the text is in a different text frame. The formatting is applied immediately. Or, with no text selected, use the Eyedropper tool to click on text with formatting you wish to copy, then drag the tool over text to which you wish to apply formatting. Neither text frame has to be selected for this to work.

Eyedropper Options

You can choose which attributes you want to copy with the Eyedropper tool by double-clicking on the tool in the Tools palette. The Eyedropper Options dialog box has five different sets of settings for copying fill, stroke, transparency, character, and paragraph attributes. By default, all are turned on. Then, within each category you can select the exact choices you want to include by clicking in the checkboxes. For instance, you can tell InDesign to pick up the font, size, and color of text, but ignore its leading and tint.
