Page Settings

InDesign has two groups of defaults, we’ll start with page settings that change how a page is created and displayed then we will look at the actual preferences.

Default Page Size

You can define the default page size by closing all documents, and keeping InDesign open and then selecting Document Setup from the File menu. Like with QuarkXPress, most settings made with no documents open will be reflected in all future documents. If you make preference or default changes while a document is open the changes are limited to that document. Enter the page size, orientation and whether or not you want facing pages in the Document Setup dialog box (see Figure 7-1). Once you set these, InDesign uses the values for all your future documents (until you change the defaults, of course). While this sets your default page size, you can always override these defaults in the New Document dialog box when creating new files.
