Chapter 90. Building an Index > Making References

Making References

Whether or not you have pre-defined index topics, you can start indexing by clicking the Reference button at the top of the Index palette, selecting a word or phrase in your document that you would like to be indexed, and choosing the New Page Reference command from the flyout menu or clicking the New icon at the bottom of the palette. This opens the Page Reference Options dialog box, which lets you specify a scope (index this page, index to the end of the document, or whatever) and create nested entries so that the selected reference appears beneath topics (see Figure 90-2). Items in the first topic appear before second level entries.
