Chapter 1. Using FrontPage 2002 > Important Changes

Important Changes

Sometimes it’s the little changes, not the flashy new features, that make the biggest difference in your daily use of a program. Here are the changes most likely to affect your work:

  • Continuing the trend begun with the 2000 versions of FrontPage and Office, FrontPage 2002 is even more tightly bound to the look and functions of the simultaneously released Office XP. Both programs, for example, now sport a task pane for common tasks. Both now also use floating toolbars that fade away when not being used. For more information, see FrontPage Basics on page 15.

  • The folder list and navigation panes have been streamlined to make it easier to control how pages link to one another. For more information, see FrontPage Basics on page 15.

  • You now have more control over table formats with tools for automatically filling cells and applying custom effects (Figure 1.3). For more information, see Creating Tables on page 250.

Figure 1.3. The Tables toolbar now lets you apply custom formats, as well as automatically fill in empty cells.

  • User-level security offers finer control over who can access pages—a feature requested by many FrontPage 2000 users. For more information, see Installing and Configuring FrontPage on page 409.

  • Using a set of revamped panes, you now can update your remote Web site by drag-and-dropping locally generated pages. For more information, see Publishing to the Web on page 394.

  • You now can take a folder of images and automatically create an entire gallery of quick-to-download thumbnail versions of each image. In the previous version of FrontPage, you could only create thumbnails one image a time. For more information, see To create a thumbnail photo gallery on page 185.
