Using Templates and Themes

FrontPage’s built-in templates and themes can save you tons of time in producing great-looking pages. Use the templates for building pages and sites, then use the themes to apply graphic touches to a single page or a whole site. To make creation of some of the more complicated templates easier, FrontPage has included several program “wizards” to guide you step-by-step through the process.

To create a page from a template

Choose File > New > Page or Web and a task pane will appear down the right side of the main window. Click the Page Templates icon in the New from template section (Figure 3.84).

When the Page Templates dialog box appears with the General tab already selected, choose a template for your page, and click the OK button (Figure 3.85). For help creating form pages, open the Form Page Wizard and follow its instructions. For more information on forms, see page 289. (For details on the Frames Pages and Style Sheets tabs, see pages 274 and 343.)

Once the template opens, you can select headings and text, replacing them with your own text (Figure 3.86). For details on creating and formatting text, see page 89.

To replace a picture, right-click on it and choose Picture Properties from the shortcut menu (Figure 3.87).

When the Picture Properties dialog box appears, click the General tab, and then click Browse to navigate to the graphic you want to use instead (Figure 3.88). To insert the new graphic, click OK. For more on using graphics, see Adding and Editing Images.

The new graphic will appear in the template (Figure 3.89). To save the page, choose File > Save navigate to the folder where you want to save it, then click Save (Figure 3.90).
