To add an AutoShape

1.
Turn on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes in the toolbar, choose a shape category, then choose a specific shape from the drop-down menu (Figure 8.5).

Click and drag in the page where you want the shape to appear (left, Figure 8.6). Release the cursor when the shape reaches the desired size (you can adjust its location and size later). The shape will appear on the page, with a series of small circles marking its boundary (right, Figure 8.6). For more information on moving or adjusting AutoShapes, see Changing Drawn Objects.

Tips

  • You also can add AutoShapes to a page by choosing Insert > Picture > AutoShapes and then choosing a shape from the AutoShapes toolbar (Figure 8.7).

  • If you plan on creating a bunch of AutoShapes all at once, you may find it easier to have a separate AutoShapes toolbar on your desktop. Just click the Drawing toolbar’s AutoShapes icon and move your cursor over the top of the drop-down menu until it becomes a four-headed arrow. You can then drag the AutoShapes toolbar to the desktop (Figure 8.8).
