Working with Printer Styles

As you can see, there are many steps to printing a document. InDesign 1.5 lets you store all the steps as printer styles. These styles make it easy to switch between different print settings for various types of output devices.

To create a printer style:

1.
Choose File > Printer Styles > Define. This opens the Define Printer Styles dialog box .

Figure 12.40. The Define Printer Styles dialog box lets you define and control the printer styles.

2.
Click New. This opens the New Printer Style dialog box .

Figure 12.41. The New Printer Style dialog box lets you name a printer style.

3.
Name the style and click OK. This opens an alert that explains how you will define the style .

Figure 12.42. The Alert dialog box for creating printer styles explains the procedures for creating printer styles.

4.
(Mac) Click OK to open the Page Setup dialog box. Enter the settings you want for the printer style (see page 224–226).

5.
Click OK to open the Print dialog box. Enter the settings you want for the printer style (see pages 227–232).

Tip

Although you open the print dialog boxes, you do not actually print the file.

6.
Click OK to close the dialog boxes. The new printer style appears in the list of printer styles.
