Viewing Images

You can set placed images to display in different ways on the page. This lets you set how detailed the image appears or turn off the display entirely to speed the redraw of the page.

To set image previews:

1.
Choose File > Preferences > General to open the Preferences dialog box .

Figure 7.15. The Preferences dialog box allows you to set the display options for placed images.

2.
Choose one of the three options from the Images Display pop-up list.

  • Full Resolution displays the actual resolution of the image. For most professional printing this is 300 ppi.

  • Optimized Resolution changes the resolution dynamically so that the resolution uses no more than 15% of the RAM assigned to InDesign or is 72 ppi (whichever comes first).

  • Proxy displays the resolution that was created when the file was placed.

  • Gray Out displays a gray box instead of the actual image .

Figure 7.16. The Gray Out option replaces an image with a gray area crisscrossed by lines.
