Chapter 2. DOCUMENT SETUP > Starting Documents

Starting Documents

When you create a new document, you have to answer a lot of questions. This is the same as marking up a mechanical board.

To start a new document:

1.
Choose File > New. This opens the Document Setup dialog box .

Type the number of pages in the Number of Pages field.

Check Facing Pages to set your document with left-hand and right-hand pages. (See the next page for more information on facing pages.)

4.
Check Master Text Frame to automatically add text to pages. (For more information on master text frames, see page 157.)

5.
Use the Page Size pop-up list to set the size of your page. (See the next page.)

6.
Set the Orientation to portrait or landscape. (For more information on the page orientation, see page 20.)

7.
Enter the size of the margins in the Margins fields. (For more information on setting the margins, see .)

8.
Set the number of columns and the gutter width in the Columns Number and Cutter fields. (For more information on columns and gutters, see page 21.)

9.
Click OK. The document appears in the window .
