Chapter 15. COMPARED TO QUARKXPRESS

Chapter 15. COMPARED TO QUARKXPRESS

Most people who learn a page-layout program such as InDesign are actually learning two things: using a page-layout program as well as the specifics of the application. The release of InDesign is slightly different.

Adobe expects many people who are experienced with QuarkXPress to switch to InDesign. Those new users don't need to learn about using a page layout program— they already know QuarkXPress. They need to focus just on the specifics of InDesign and how they compare to QuarkXPress.

This chapter lets you compare Adobe InDesign to QuarkXPress 4. If you are familiar with QuarkXPress you can use this chapter as a super quickstart to using InDesign. If you need more information, you can refer to the previous chapters for the exercises.

Please note that although there are some QuarkXPress features that you won't find in InDesign, this chapter doesn't cover the many powerful features found in InDesign that aren't in QuarkXPress. Also, features that are extremely similar, such as copy, cut, and paste, are not listed in this chapter.

Tip

Each of the figures in this chapter displays the InDesign items on the left and the QuarkXPress items on the right. Any differences between version 1.0 and 1.5 are covered in the main chapters.
