Chapter 9. AUTOMATING TEXT

Chapter 9. AUTOMATING TEXT

Just as there are special features for automating the layout of a document, there are also special features for automating text formatting. For instance, let's say I decided that every time I mentioned the program InDesign that it should be written in italic, as InDesign.

Do you think I would scroll through page after page looking for the word InDesign and then applying the italic version of the typeface one word at a time? Well, perhaps if I were being paid by the hour I might want to do that; but I'm not. So I would much rather finish the layout of this book as quickly and efficiently as possible.

That's what text automation features such as find and change, spelling check, and styles are designed for. Whenever a task threatens to become a laborious job of searching through an entire document or repeating the same commands over and over, most likely there's a special feature designed to automate the process.
