Chapter 4. Text input > What is the text overflow symbol?

What is the text overflow symbol?

If a text box is too small to display all the text that it contains, a text overflow symbol will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the box . The text overflow symbol will disappear if the text box is enlarged enough to display all the type that it contains or if the box is linked to another box for the text to spill into.

The text overflow symbol doesn't print; it's merely an indicator that there is hidden text in the buffer. Only the text that is visible in a box will print.

Tip

If pages are mysteriously added to your document when a text box becomes full, it means Auto Page Insertion is turned on (Edit menu > Preferences > Document > General folder tab).

Tip

The maximum number of paragraphs per story is higher in QuarkXPress version 4.0 than it was in 3.3.

Keep The Case Open

Lower case characters can be converted into caps or small caps with a flick of a switch on the Measurements palette, but characters input with the Caps lock key pressed can't be converted back to lowercase—so don't type with the Caps lock key pressed down. (Or use the Case Conversion or Enhanced Conversion XTension in the Windows TeXT ColleXTion by Visions Edge, Inc.)
