Chapter 4. Text input > To move a text box manually:

To move a text box manually:

1.
Choose the Item tool. Or hold down Ctrl to temporarily use the Item tool if the Content tool is selected.

2.
Press inside a text box, pause briefly for the text to redraw, then drag the item to a new location on the same page or to a different page (the cursor will be a cluster of arrowheads). The x/y position numbers on the Measurements palette will update as you drag. Touch the bottom of the document window to force scrolling, if necessary.

Tip

Hold down Shift as you drag to constrain the movement to a horizontal or vertical axis. Release the mouse before releasing Shift. To use ruler guides to position an item, see page 135.

Tip

Remember the Undo command, which undoes most operations: Ctrl-Z.

Snap To It

If View menu > Snap to Guides is turned on (Shift-F7) and you drag the handle of a box or an anchor point near a guide, the handle or point will snap to the guide with a little tug. Turn Snap to Guides off if you want to drag an item manually without the little tug.

Use the Measurements palette to nail an item to a precise x/y location.
