Chapter 4. Text input > To save text as a word processing file:

To save text as a word processing file:

1.
Choose the Content tool.

Highlight the text to be saved.

or

Click in a story.

Choose File menu > Save Text (Ctrl-Alt-E).

Type a name for the text file in the File name field .

If text is highlighted in the document, you can click Entire Story or Selected Text. If you merely clicked in a story, only the Entire Story option will be available.

6.
Choose a file format from the "Save as type" drop-down menu. (The import/export filter for a file format must be enabled for it to appear on the list. Use the XTensions Manager to turn a filter on or off. See page 285.)

7.
Choose a location in which to save the text file.

8.
Click Save or press Enter.

Tip

Text saved in the ASCII format will be stripped of all formatting. Text saved in a word processing application format may be stripped of some formatting. Text saved in the XPress Tags format will retain all formatting, but it will display with special codes.
