Chapter 19. Preferences > To use the Profile Information palette:

To use the Profile Information palette:

1.
Open the palette by choosing View menu > Show Profile Information.

2.
Click on a picture box that contains an imported picture.

3.
Examine the three information fields to learn about:

The current picture's Picture Type—Color, Grayscale, or Line Art (black- and-white).

The File type: TIFF, EPS, etc.

The Color Space: RGB, CMYK, Unknown (for an EPS file whose exact color space information is not accessable to QuarkXPress), etc.

4.
If necessary, choose from the Profile drop-down menu to alter the source profile for the selected picture from the embedded or default profile currently chosen in Color Management Preferences. For an RGB picture, the Profile drop-down menu will display monitor or scanner names. For a CMYK picture, the Profile drop-down menu will display output device names. (The defaults were set up in the Default Source Profiles section of the Color Management Preferences.

5.
Check the Color Correction box to turn on QuarkXPress' on-screen color correction for the selected picture .

Choosing a different profile name when Color Correction is checked will immediately alter the on-screen appearance of the currently selected picture.

The Profile drop-down menu and Color Correction box will be grayed out for a grayscale or EPS picture. In the case of the former, there is no color to correct. And an EPS picture is encapsulated, which means its color information cannot be altered using any QuarkXPress command.

Tip

A profile chosen from the Profile Information palette will override the default profile assigned to the picture via the Color Management Preferences dialog box.
