Chapter 19. Preferences > Color in QuarkXPress

Color in QuarkXPress

Two kinds of color are used in a QuarkXPress document: Color that is applied to an item that's created within the application and color that was saved in an imported picture. In the case of color that's applied in QuarkXPress, the CMS generates color data based on the monitor profile or the profile for the output device the color is intended for. Item color profiles are assigned in the CMS Color Management Preferences dialog box.

When a picture is imported, the CMS searches for an included profile, if any, that is contained in that picture. The profile can be for the scanning device, the monitor used in the image creation program, or the final output device that was chosen for the picture. If no profile is included with an imported picture, you can use the CMS to assign a source profile. For an RGB picture, this will be a scanning device or monitor profile—whichever is appropriate. For a CMYK picture, this will be the profile for the final output device. Note: The CMS may not detect an embedded TIFF profile.
