Chapter 20. Output > To create a PostScript file:

To create a PostScript file:

Click Start button > Settings > Printers.

Right-click on the name of your printer and choose Properties.

Click the Details folder tab.

Choose "FILE: (creates a file on disk)" from the "Print to the following port" drop-down menu , then click OK.

Click in the QuarkXPress document window, and choose File menu > Print (Ctrl-P).

Ask your service provider what settings to choose in the Setup and Output folder tabs.

Click Properties, and click the PostScript folder tab.

From the PostScript output format drop-down menu, choose Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) . (A warning will appear if you haven't selected Print to the following port: FILE, as described in steps 1–4, above.)

Click OK, then click Print. In the Print To File dialog box, type a name for and choose a folder in which to save the output file in the File name field . If you want an extension, you must type it; none will be added automatically.

Reminder: Be sure to go back into Printer Settings and change the "Print to the following port" setting back to LPT1: (Printer Port) in order to print normally.

The Save Page as EPS command converts a QuarkXPress page into a single picture. There are a few reasons why you might need to do this. Your service provider or commercial printer might ask you to save a page as an EPS file in order to color separate it. Second, a file produced using this feature can be imported into another application, like Photoshop or Illustrator. And finally, you can use Save Page as EPS to create a resizable page-within-a-page.
