Chapter 15. Color > Compare colors

Compare colors

To compare the components of two colors, in the Colors dialog box, Ctrl-click two color names, then hold down Alt and click the Append button (it will turn into a Compare button).

Note: In process color printing, a wide range of colors are produced by printing tiny dots from four plates, one each for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. In the Hexachrome matching system by Pantone, Inc., two additional plates are used—orange and green—bringing the total to six plates. The additional plates in Hexachrome color (commonly referred to as "HiFi" or "high fidelity" color) expand the range of printable colors and also produce brighter and more vibrant colors than are possible using the standard four process plates. QuarkXPress can also color separate an RGB TIFF using high fidelity colors. Consult with your print shop before using HiFi colors. Their higher cost is justified only in certain cases.
