Tweaking Hyphenation

Earlier in this chapter, I talked about how to create, edit, and apply H&J settings. However, you can fine-tune the program's hyphenation in a document with two tools and a preference: Hyphenation Exceptions, Suggested Hyphenation, and Hyphenation Method. Let's look briefly at each of these.

Hyphenation Method

In earlier versions of XPress, the program only used algorithms (“rules”) to hyphenate its words. The result: some words didn't break properly and you got strange hyphenation. Over the years, XPress's algorithm slowly got better, and XPress started offering a choice between Standard and Enhanced algorithms (you can make the choice in the Paragraph tab of the Preferences dialog box).
