Chapter 6. Type and Typography > Fine-Tuning Type

Fine-Tuning Type

Almost everything I've talked about in this chapter has been at a character or paragraph level. Here I'm going to talk about making typographic adjustments on a document level. You have control over several areas at a document level, including how superscript, subscript, superior, and small-caps characters are “built;” which words will hyphenate; and how XPress deals with ligatures, accents, and special spaces. You can also create custom automatic tracking and kerning tables, and run through an automatic check for typographic problem areas.

Let's look at how you can use these controls in your documents.
