Chapter 2. QuarkXPress Basics > Changing Defaults

Changing Defaults

Each and every one of you reading this book is different, and you all have different ways of using QuarkXPress. Fortunately, Quark has given you a mess of options for customizing the internal default settings. A default setting is a value or indicates a way of doing something; QuarkXPress uses the default value or method unless you specifically choose something else.

For example, the factory default setting for picture and text boxes is that they are created with no border frame around them (see “Frames, Dashes, and Stripes” in Chapter 3, Tools of the Trade). But if you're so inclined, you can modify QuarkXPress so that every text box you create is automatically framed with a two-point line. In this way, you can customize your work environment so that it best suits you.
