Troubleshooting

After all of this, printing should be a breeze, right? Well, I wish it were. Too often, I get phone calls from my service bureau saying, “Your job wouldn't print.” Back in the good old days, a service bureau would offer to fix it for you. Now life has gotten busy for them, and they usually expect you to do the fixing. Here are some tips that I've found, over the years, to work.

Graphics Look Awful

One of the most common problems with print jobs from QuarkXPress has never had anything to do with QuarkXPress itself. The problem is with the person sending their files. Remember that QuarkXPress does not actually embed any EPS or TIFF files that you have imported. It only brings in a low-resolution representation of the screen image, and maintains a link with the original file. If that file changes or is missing when QuarkXPress tries to print it, the graphic will look different from what you expected.
