Appendix B. Macintosh vs. Windows

Appendix B. Macintosh vs. Windows

I know many hard-core Mac users who prefer to wear cloves of garlic (or rubber gloves) when working with computers based on Microsoft Windows. I also know Windows users who still think the Macintosh is just a toy. No matter what you think, two facts simply can't be denied: First, there are lots more Windows boxes out there than Macs (though as I write this, there are still many more people doing electronic publishing on Macintoshes than on PCs). Second, increasingly, people have to use both platforms, sometimes at the same time.

Fortunately, QuarkXPress works almost identically on both computer platforms (if it weren't for the different look and feel of dialog boxes and menus, most of the time you couldn't tell the difference between the two versions). Plus, QuarkXPress for Windows can open QuarkXPress for Macintosh files, and vice versa, providing pretty decent two-way transferability of files between the two programs.
