HTML Forms

Go to almost any large site, or even a small site, and you'll see a page with a form. It could be as simple as a text entry field to enter your email address or search the site, or as complex as a survey or a form to place an order. Unfortunately, it's sort of a pain to make forms in most programs. But not QuarkXPress! It's positively easy to make a form in this program, and one of the best reasons to use XPress for authoring your pages.

How forms work

Here's how forms work: Once the user fills in the form fields (checkboxes, menus, text entry fields, and so on), they press a button that submits the data to the Web server. Sitting on the server is a program that can be run using the CGI (Common Gateway Interface), and this program processes the data, does something with it (such as send an email with the posted information or create a new record in a database), and then passes a result page back to the user.
