The Style Menu

Chapter 9, Pictures, describes how you can manipulate the “layout” of the picture in the picture box, including cropping, rotating, skewing, and moving the image. These effects are controlled from the Measurements palette or the Modify dialog box. Here I talk primarily about the image modification possibilities using features from the Style menu. Remember that you can combine both image manipulation techniques (rotating, changing the shape and size, and so on) and image modification techniques (changing the grayscale or color parameters, and so on) to create fascinating effects in your page layout.

Tip

When the Style Menu Is Gray. If the items on the Style menu are grayed out, you have probably imported an EPS or some other file format that XPress cannot modify. Remember: No shoes, no bitmapped image, no service. In earlier versions, the Color TIFFs setting in the Preferences dialog box had to be set to 8-bit, but XPress no longer requires this for Style menu changes. Or, if the menu is still grayed out, you may not have the Item tool or the Content tool selected, or you may not have the image's picture box selected. If still none of these things work, I can only suggest plugging in the machine.
