Chapter 10. Fine-Tuning Images

Chapter 10. Fine-Tuning Images

Let me be perfectly clear here: While QuarkXPress provides an astonishing array of controls over your page's text, the program is particularly poor at editing any images you may have imported. Nonetheless, XPress does contain a few image-editing features that you should know about, if only to keep yourself out of trouble.

In Chapter 9, Pictures, I discussed several graphic file formats, how to bring them into your QuarkXPress documents, and how to perform basic manipulations with them, such as rotating, skewing, and scaling. In this chapter, I look at how you can use QuarkXPress in place of other image-editing software to modify the imported image itself. Bear in mind that I'm not talking here about image editing. You can't actually change the content of imported graphics in QuarkXPress. You can, however, change some of their overall parameters such as contrast, color, clipping path, and halftone screen.
