Chapter 7. Copy Flow > BBEdit and Other Text Editors

BBEdit and Other Text Editors

The focus of this chapter (and of this whole book) is efficiency: how to take raw materials and quickly turn them into a finished product. The raw materials might be text from some DOS word processor, or it might be highly formatted text within a QuarkXPress document that needs even more formatting applied to it. Obviously, XPress Tags makes less sense when your document is a single-page ad. However, when you're preparing books or other long documents (even some magazines or newspapers), being able to make edits to XPress Tags is a powerful tool for massaging your text into the shape you want.

In general, I recommend using a text editor rather than a word processor for this kind of stuff—for two reasons. First, word processors have too many tools for formatting text and too few tools for editing it quickly (NisusWriter is one good exception). On the other hand, text editors, don't care much about formatting; they focus on the text itself.
