Chapter 12. Color > Specifying Color

Specifying Color

In previous chapters I've discussed applying colors to objects using the Style menu and the Modify dialog box, and I've alluded to the Colors palette. Here I'll discuss how to create colors in QuarkXPress over and above the nine which come as default settings. Then I'll get into the nitty-gritty of the Colors palette before covering the important issues of trapping and importing color from other programs.

The Color List

Before you can use a color in QuarkXPress, you have to create it, so that it appears on your document's color list. XPress allows thousands of different colors on this list, including the six colors which must be present: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, White, and Registration (I'll talk about this last “color” later in this chapter). You can access this list—and thereby add, delete, and modify colors—by selecting Color from the Edit menu.
