Telling QuarkCMS About Pictures

Telling QuarkCMS About Pictures

Once you've told QuarkCMS about your monitor and printer, and you've set up your default profiles for colors, you need to tell it a little about the pictures you're importing. When you first import a picture, XPress applies the default source profile to it unless you override that in the Get Picture dialog box. Or, you can also change an image's source profile in the Profile Information palette. Let's look at each of these options.

Selecting a Profile

The QuarkCMS XTension adds a popup menu and a checkbox to the Get Picture dialog box (see Figure A-2). If a picture didn't have a profile assigned to it, then QuarkCMS couldn't transform its colors because it wouldn't know what to transform from (it doesn't know what the colors are supposed to look like). Therefore, no color matching would be possible. Again, the point is that when you tell QuarkCMS where the image came from, here in the Get Picture dialog box or elsewhere, you're telling it how the colors should really look.
