Chapter 24. XML > To create an XML file:

To create an XML file:

1.
Open the QuarkXPress print document that is to be tagged.

2.
Choose File > New > XML (Cmd-Shift-X/Ctrl-Shift-X).

3.
Click Custom.xmt on the Template list to create an XML document from scratch .

Click an existing XML template file (.xmt) from the Template list on which to base the new XML document. Read more about templates on page 440.

Click Import, locate your DTD file, then click Open.

Make sure the root element you referenced in the DTD is chosen from the Root Element pop-up menu.

Click OK. The XML Workspace palette will open . Leave this palette open and proceed with the next set of instructions.

In our example, the “illustration” container element has two child elements; the HTML:img element has an “src” attribute.


TIP

Once you click OK, you can't change which DTD or root element is assigned to this XML file. You would have to make a new XML file in order to choose a different DTD or root element.
