Chapter 24. XML > Starting out with XML

Starting out with XML

Before you can create an XML file and tag existing content in a QuarkXPress file, you have to define a DTD. To make things easier, you can base the new DTD on an existing one. A simple DTD need only contain, for example, elements that represent the style sheet names used in an existing QuarkXPress file. You will also create a container element to define the order and interrelationship of the elements in the XML file.

In QuarkXPress, DTD elements display on the XML Tree, which is located on the XML Workspace palette. On the XML Tree, elements are displayed hierarchically, from top level to sublevel, as defined in the DTD file.
