Chapter 24. XML > XML in QuarkXPress 5

XML in QuarkXPress 5

QuarkXPress 5 includes the avenue.quark XTension, which converts QuarkXPress content into XML format. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a simple structured language that helps manage information by identifying data, be it data you enter directly into the XML file or data in a text or data base file. Once identified, that data can be selectively extracted and placed in other files and organized in ways that differ from the original source. XML data can be output as HTML files for the Web or can be used for print output.

Just a start

From this introductory chapter to XML, you will get a glimpse of the many roles XML plays. XML is very complex, though, and worthy of many books on its own. When you're ready to learn more, check out these sources:

XML for the World Wide Web Visual QuickStart Guide, by Elizabeth Castro, Peachpit Press, 2001.
