Type in reverse

There's no one-step method for creating reversed type. You have to change the type color to white (see page 248) and change the background of the text box to black (see page 249). To create reversed type in subheads or other repetitive text, use a very legible typeface and a black or colored paragraph rule (see pages 100–101).

How to get attention

  • Make the text you want to stand out larger.

  • Use boldface or italics in the same font family as the body text.

  • Choose a contrasting font or color.

Don't use the underline or ALL CAPS style to get attention. Those styles actually make type look more uniform, and thus harder to read.
