Prime time

Please—we beg of you—use straight quotes only for foot and inch marks (not for quotation marks). Or better yet, use oblique foot and inch marks, called prime marks. To produce a foot mark in the Mac OS, choose the Symbol font (Cmd-Shift-Q), then press Option-4 ; to produce an inch mark, press Option- , (comma). In Windows, choose the ZappedPiFH font for a foot mark, then press Shift-M; for an inch mark, press Shift-N. If the Symbol/ZappedPiFH font isn't available or you don't like the way it looks, use the italic inch or foot mark in your current font instead.
