Chapter 13. Style Sheets > Local formatting

Local formatting

Text formatted using a style sheet can be locally formatted at any time using the keyboard, the Measurements palette, or the Style menu. If you insert the cursor in, or highlight, locally styled text, a plus sign will appear on the Style Sheets palette next to the name of the style sheet that is associated with that paragraph. A plus sign will also precede a paragraph style sheet name if your cursor is inserted in text that a character style sheet has been applied to.

The Duplicate command simply creates a copy of an existing style sheet. Unlike a Based On style sheet, there is no linkage between a duplicate style sheet and the original from which it is generated. It's a fast way to create a variation on an existing style sheet.
